A LOCAL six-man team fished in the evening heat of the Anglian Water/Airflo international competition at Lake of Menteith on Monday, June 15 – and despite catching 11 trout they missed out on qualification.
The team – which comprised myself, Gordon Scott, Andy Cook, Davy Noble, Jackie Greive and Alan Douglas – came up against some very experienced anglers from a large area, many of whom practice regularly on the Lake before this competition.

Also in
competitive action a day later on Tuesday, June 16, Alan Douglas and Rob Glendinning fished a heat of the Lindean competition, near Selkirk, when they managed to go forward to the next round, in which they lost out on weight difference.

Meanwhile, dry flies have been getting some good results at Acreknowe over the last two weeks with several trout falling to CDC sedges and hoppers. At times you would think that there are no trout about but if you persevere they will take the fly when you least expect it. Buzzers have also been working when fished very slowly. A number of decent trout have also been caught on Acremoor and Hellmoor, again mainly on small dries and buzzers with a few being tempted when using small wet flies.

An osprey has been spotted hovering over Acreknowe recently but has still to be seen doing any fishing, possibly due to the number of anglers who have been present at the time.
