Teviotdale Leisure Centre hosted its popular triathlon event on Sunday – the fourth in the 2008 series – when 67 out of the 100 competitors who had entered braved the torrential rain and slippy conditions to race in and around Hawick in the sprint and come-and-tri events.
And what was the third annual staging of the competition, attracted competitors from all over Scotland due to its Triathlon Scotland 'ranked' status.

The sprint triathlon saw competitors competing over three elements which were were a 750-metre sw
im, 20-kilometre cycle and five-kilometre run, while competitors taking part in the come-and-tri event completed half the distance.

David Moffat, from Peebles, completed the sprint triathlon in one hour and three minutes to claim first male and first overall. Penicuik's Stuart Sanderson was the first male veteran, and finished three minutes behind Moffat to secure second male overall, while Andy Buchanan, of East Kilbride, finished third and a further 45 seconds behind.

Livingston's Lucy Ross, competing as a junior, was first in the female category and picked up both first female junior and first female. Second home was Cumbria's Samantha Wilson seven minutes behind, while Hawick's Jackie Wilson was third female and first female veteran four minutes later.

Leisure centre manager Stuart Holmes commented: "Although the weather was miserable, we were pleased to see such a high number of competitors taking part.

"Particular thanks must go to all the staff and volunteers from the community who help marshal the event, which helped make it another success."
