I read the call by the owners of Brydon’s for the market to be moved to the High Street, and have long felt that this would be a great move as it would free up the Haugh for parking and bring the shops extra trade.
It would also mean the camper van parking would be available on a Friday night.
I’m not sure why our councillors have never got behind this idea, and can only suspect that it is down to the money coming to the common good fund from the market stalls, or am I being cynical?
Come on, councillors, step up and support this before the High Street dies. Let’s turn Hawick into a more attractive retail destination and have the market on the High Street on Saturdays.
