Mayor hails Hawick welcome

I was delighted to attend many Common-Riding functions last year, either in my previous role as deputy mayor of Hexham or for personal pleasure. When this year, as mayor, my partner Philippa and I were again invited to attend the Common-Riding, I made sure my diary was clear. In fact, I actually came up a few weeks earlier to spend a couple of nights on a personal visit.

It never fails to amaze me the warm welcome we always receive when we come to Hawick. We met many old friends from last year and made a lot more new ones. Not once have we had anything other than a good experience. If you could bottle the Hawick spirit you would make a fortune.

Last year, we had the pleasure of talking to Gregor Hepburn and were delighted to find out he was to be this year’s Cornet, as indeed we were to hear Stuart Marshall became provost for another two years. Two excellent choices.

Until we meet again my friends. A’ the best.

Councillor Trevor Cessford
