THERE was lots of clowning around at the Tower Mill this week as Scottish-born children’s author Lari Don visited to celebrate this year’s Circus themed Summer Reading Challenge.

Lari was joined by Circus performers ‘Gus and Oli’, and the venue was transformed into a spectacular big top for the day for a ‘Juggling Words’ roadshow as The Reading Agency takes its annual children’s reading programme into libraries across the country.

The free roadshow was one of six across Scotland made possible by support from Tesco Bank. Fun-filled and interactive family events featuring story-telling, circus performances and prizes for the best fancy dressed child, the event was a real winner for more than 100 attendees who packed out the theatre to its capacity.

Gill Swales, organising librarian for Scottish Borders, said: “Reading can be such fun and events like ‘Juggling Words’ should inspire and feed the imagination of everyone who comes along.”
