A YOUNG drivers roadshow is being held in the Haugh car park tonight.
Organised by the Scottish Borders Road Safety Working Group it is open to 17-25-year-olds and is part of a long-term campaign to raise young drivers’ awareness of the risks and responsibilities of driving a vehicle.
Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is offering free demonstration drives. There are competitions and prizes to be won – including fuel vouchers. People can take part in the ‘Show and Shine Competition’ to recognise the best prepared vehicle of the night, and they can talk to experts from Lothian and Borders Police (road policing), Scottish Borders Council, Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service, IAM and others.
John Cleland of Cleland’s Galashiels giving young people the chance to take the advanced driving test and will refund the first 100 who successfully sit the course and test.
The roadshow gets under way at 7.30pm.
