Police and fire services are investigating the death of a women after a house fire in Hawick’s Fisher Avenue on Wednesday.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 16.03pm on Wednesday, April 13, to a fire at Fisher Avenue in Hawick.

“Three appliances from Hawick and Selkirk were sent to the incident and on arrival were faced with a well-developed fire.

“Firefighters discovered one female fatality within the property and our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed that the body of a 45-year-old woman had been found in the property.

A joint investigation between Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland is currently underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The name of the victim has not yet been released by police.
