Wilson Mills saga continues

SCOTTISH Borders Council is returning to court in a bid to recover more than £44,000 of public money spent making the former Wilton Mills safe.

The local authority is seeking to recover the full cost from Beaune Properties (North) Ltd after erecting scaffolding two years ago following alleged fears about its structure, although the developer denied it was necessary.

Speaking at a recent meeting of Teviot and Liddesdale Area Committee, Councillor Jock Houston informed members that SBC was “on its way back to court”.

The Category B listed building is regularly targeted by vandals and was branded an “accident waiting to happen” last year by the Teviot and Liddesdale Community Safety Panel
