Walking group savours lovely views

A SMALL band of eight 50+ Group walkers left Hawick for a walk starting at Belford on Bowmont.

It was a crisp dry morning when they set off on the track past Culroost farm, heading up the valley

to Culroost Hopehead, an old shepherd’s cottage where Jim Telfer stayed in his early years, which is now a shooting lodge.

The walkers had a steady climb on a good track up Belshaw Knowe onto ‘The Street’ where they were afforded beautiful views over the snow-covered HenHole and Bulk of Big Cheviot while enjoying their lunch break.

Afterwards, they headed on this good track along Culroust Common and then up towards Craik Moor, where they were overtaken by off-road motorcyclists. When the group reached Windylaw they could see the old ruin of Seafew down in the valley.

Leaving ‘The Street’, they went down the track before stopping for a short break, then up and over Belford Hope and back to the transport. A pleasant day with some lovely scenery.

Next walk is Kielder.
