Volunteers sought for town tidy-up

THE community council is urging members of the public to roll up their sleeves for a town spring clean.

The plea has gone out this week and letters have been sent to various local organisations, asking for volunteers to join one of two litter picks next Sunday or Monday (April 10-11).

The initiative is part of a Keep Scotland Tidy spring campaign, and community council secretary Lesley Fraser says it is important people come forward. “We hope that the community will come together to do their bit for the town, as in these times of spending cuts we can no longer expect the council to do it,” she said.

Suggestions are also being sought for areas which need particular attention. More info from chairman John Hope on 376598 or Lesley on 312860.

Litter-pickers should meet at 9.30am in the Common Haugh on both days.
