TRINITY had all the right moves at the Borders Primary School Chess Championships.

Held at the Focus Centre in Galashiels last Friday the primary seven team of Billy McNeil, Joe Douglas, Matthew Thomson, Carly Yull completed a demanding schedule of matches in the morning and afternoon.

They topped their section ahead of Gordon, Stow, St Peter’s ‘B’ (Gala), Balmoral (Gala) and Newtown.

This was Trinity’s third year of participation in the competition and it nearly proved third time lucky as they finished runners-up to Philiphaugh, Selkirk, in the 18 team event.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsor David Matthews, all the competing teams left with a new chess set for their school.
