PARKING restrictions are to be implemented in Mart Street to prevent the unauthorised sale of vehicles and cars remaining there at length.
The matter was discussed at Tuesday night’s area committee meeting at which Scottish Borders Council’s assistant road user manager, Jim McQuillin, said they could go ahead with plans for a new Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), which would see motorists allowed to park their vehicles in the car park for no longer than 12 hours.
Councillor Ron Smith said: “Now we have had a reassurance that this could be possible within Mart Street car park, I think we should pursue this further.
“We want this to be introduced and so the process should start as soon as possible.”
It is understood it could take up to six months to a year to introduce the TRO.
