A LOCAL businesswoman is urging shopkeepers to be on alert after being targeted by an opportunist thief.
Sandi Spence, owner of Eden and Eden for Men, had two coats, worth £150, stolen from her Buccleuch Street shop last Thursday.
She said: “A member of staff was working and the man just grabbed the coats and ran out of the shop.
“It left her pretty shocked and shaken and I’m furious. I work hard and don’t expect something like this to happen.”
One of the jackets was a men’s Superdry coat, black with yellow writing and a distinctive waistband, worth £85; while the other is a ladies’ black coat with pink writing and a black hood, worth £65.
With the festive season fast approaching Sandi fears this might not be the last kind of theft in Hawick. She added: “I think everyone should be on their guard against these kind of people. They are obviously desperate and won’t think twice about stealing anything.”
The man is described as 5ft 9in, with mousey brown hair, and was wearing a cream waterproof jacket, grey jumper, black/grey jeans, black shoes and black scarf.
