THERE were three fines handed out in Hawick for dog fouling throughout June.

Fixed penalty notices were given to owners in The Meadows, Queens Drive and Wilton Crescent areas of the town after they failed to clean up their dog’s mess.

Scottish Borders (SB) Wardens also observed 58 owners picking up after their pets at various locations.

In a report to Hawick Community Council this week, Colin Mitchell, SB Warden for the Teviot, Liddesdale and Eildon South area, said: “The information that the public are forwarding has proved to be very useful since the start of the year and a number of fixed penalty notices for dog fouling have been issued.

“We would strongly urge any member of the public to come forward with information on dog fouling.”

The wardens dealt with a total of 29 complaints in the Hawick area during last month, which was made up of eight incidents of anti-social behaviour, 17 dog fouling, one litter, one fly-tipping and two graffiti.

Wardens can be contacted on 0300 100 1800 or at the contact centre in the town hall.
