Hawick’s Thinkfitness Gym is amongst the top six fitness facilities in Scotland.

And although the gym missed out on the top gong at a recent glitzy awards ceremony in Leicester, business owners Stuart Oliver and Greg Dalgleish are delighted to have reached the final cut.

Out of nearly 40 entrants, Thinkfitness made it to the last six in the Gym of the Year – Scotland category.

Thinkfitness was judged on various aspects including member recruitment, retention, implementation of individual fitness programmes, improvements to facilities and staff training.

And speaking this week, Stuart Oliver, who opened the gym with his business partner Greg Dalgleish 15 years ago, said: “Ultimately we never walked away with the top prize, but to be part of the glitzy night, with almost 900 others from the industry, was an experience in itself.”

And Greg Dalgleish shared some of the ongoing refurbishment plans: “We are now working towards the final phase of our gym refurbishment programme, which will be completed next Friday.

“We have invested a further £20,000 to add in the equipment needed to meet current demands which will ensure we can meet future industry trends. Since our major revamp back in 2013, we’ve gone from strength to strength, but we can’t allow ourselves to rest on our laurels and the new kit and layout, we will cement us as the biggest, most well-equipped gym in the Borders.”

The gym has also just added a sportswear section in reception, featuring top brands Adidas, Canterbury and Nike, for both men and women with Under Armour due in Spring 2016. Open to the general public, this is the first real sportswear provision in the town since the closure of old favourites like ADI Sports and Hugh McLeod Sports.

And Stuart added: “It will provide a service, and it’ll be nice not having to send customers over to Gala or further afield to buy gym kit.”
