COULD I, through your letters page, thank the many people who made the 132nd Vertish Hill Sports on Saturday such a success. There are many people to contribute to this, the Scout and Saxhorn bands, the Evergreen Club, Hawick Golf Club, the Red Cross volunteers, and, for the first time, the police not in their patrol cars but on cycles.
Also, thanks to Cornet Chris Ritson and his Lass Heather Amos, who gave out the prizes on what turned out to be a blustery afternoon weather-wise..
These times of austerity that we are in at the moment are making it all the harder to raise funds for the sports, and the committee is grateful to Hawick Motor Tyre Co, Wm Lockie and Co, 1514 Club, John Telfer Ltd, Hume and Tait, and to everbody who donated to the sports.
In this age of computers, it is nice to see the children can still enjoy a day up the Vertish and long may it continue.
Hope to see you all again next year.
President, Vertish Hill Sports
