Big-hearted Hawick folk have been hunting high and low this week and handing over their old mobiles phones in a bid to make life for one local lad a little bit easier.

Gordon and Nicola Adams’ non-verbal three-year-old son Shaun will benefit hugely by using an iPad and this can be made possible by townspeople donating their old phones, which have to include the battery. These will be exchanged for the device which will make it easier for Shaun to communicate with those around him.

Speaking this week, his mum Nicola said: “Shaun is a really happy outgoing wee boy and it is so frustrating for him not being able to communicate with us. We’ve had 93 phones donated so far and the response has been fantastic.”

Old phones can be handed into Mansfield Nursery or Beauty Secrets in O’Connell Street and Nicola and Gordon can be contacted on Facebook.
