TWO MISSING gold chains, stolen from High Street jeweller Hamish Smith at the end of last month, have been returned.
A thief made off with five chains, valued at around £700, but thanks to a huge community effort, he was later arrested, although only three of the pieces were recovered.
However, a good samaritan from Northcote Street found the jewellery in her garden and handed them in to police. And Hamish has now been reunited with them.
He said: “It was a terrible experience but it’s all ended very nicely thanks to the Hawick community. The police have also been fantastic.”
