FORMER Hawick Cycling Club member Stewart Algie came face-to face with his hero Lance Armstrong recently.
The exiled Teri, who celebrates his 71st birthday today, met the seven-time Tour de France winner at a cancer charity event in his native Canada.
Armstrong, who survived testicular cancer after being diagnosed back in 1996, led the Ride for Cancer to benefit the Grand River Hospital Foundation in Kitchener, Ontario.
A renowned cyclist with the Hawick club, Stewart, who also suffers from cancer, is a former Trinity Primary School pupil.
He was an employee of Lyle & Scott, but moved to Canada over 45 years ago.
His brother and sister, Gordon and Shiela, still live in Hawick with another brother, Derek, in Western Australia.
Now living in St George, Ontario, Stewart is married to Diana and the couple have two sons.
They are currently back home in Hawick visiting family.
