PLANS are well under way for Hawick’s first ever Youth International Dance Festival being held next month.
The local group ‘Teries in Tartan’ will welcome visitors from the Liniki Dance Group from Poznan in Poland, and also Danzdeel from Salzkotten in Germany for the event, which will see 60 guests staying with host families for four days - and they will be performing in the Civic Space and at Sainsbury’s on Wedneday, August 10, and at Trinity Gardens on Saturday, August 13. But the highlight of the week will be the grand concert in the Auld Baths on the Friday (August 12). Tickets priced £6 are on sale from group members, and Brydon’s Cafe from next week.
The visiting young people will also enjoy a full social programme including a ‘treasure Hunt’ round the town, barbecue and swimming at the Teviotdale Leisure Centre. They will also be showing their support for the opening of Hawick Summer Festival.
Festival Director Cath Elliott-Walker told the Hawick News: “We are all really excited to stage this first for Hawick, and we hope the community will turn out to support.
“We particularly hope our many Polish residents will take this opportunity to welcome visitors from their homeland. We are still seeking a few extra host families both for adults and children and we would really like to hear from anyone who might be able to help. If interested please call 07773592070.”
