HAWICK Community Hospital has been struck by a winter sickness bug which has affected both patients and staff.
The Victoria Road facility has been forced to implement infection control after a number of patients were hit with the stomach bug – which the Hawick News understands also affected employees and led to a decreased level of staff.
A spokesperson for NHS Borders said: “Hawick Community Hospital has recently seen a number of patients with gastro-intestinal symptoms. The cause of these symptoms has not yet been established. However, as part of our infection control procedures, we isolated symptomatic patients as a precaution, to reduce any potential spread of infection within the hospital.”
The hospital is currently still being monitored and the situation managed as required, and the spokesperson added: “We would stress to everyone that they observe good hand hygiene and avoid visiting the hospital if they have symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting to reduce the spread of this infection.”
