Hawick Music Live’s first concert of the season welcomes the Philomusica of Edinburgh to the Heart of Hawick on Saturday at 7pm.

The irrepressible Lawrence Dunn directs, as in the past, a wide variety of music including, Vivaldi’s Concerto for two flutes, Warlock’s Capriol Suite, the Suite from Pirates of the Caribbean and Bagatelles from Nugae, by the Hawick composer Sir John Blackwood McEwen.

For a change of tone, the night presents a young Scottish soprano Coleen Nicholl, who has completed her studies at Edinburgh University and is continuing her studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Colleen will sing songs by Mozart, Gounod and Solvieg’s Son by Grieg.

Organiser Gordon Macdonald said: “As usual with Lawrence Dunn and the Philomusica of Edinburgh, they always have something special up their sleeve, so make sure you come along and enjoy hearing a first-rate orchestra in full flight as they present an evening of unique blends.”

“For season 2013/14 Hawick Music Live! ‘Presents a Season of Unique Blend’ featuring instruments which will create unique musical blends including: violin and accordion, cello and guitar and a trio consisting of Scottish harp, guitar/voice and double bass – now these are unique blends.”

Hawick Music Live’s other three Heart of Hawick concerts are the Cameo Clarinet Quartet (Saturday, October 19, 7pm), Andrea Gajic on violin with Djordje Gajic on accordion (Sunday, 17 November, 2.30pm) and Hawick High School Music Students (Saturday, January 25, 7pm)

Saturday’s tickets cost £10, students £2, available from 01450 360688, or Tower Mill.
