THE owner of Eden For Men has offered a £200 reward to help catch those responsible for carrying out a smash and grab theft from the Buccleuch Street shop on Monday night.

Furious proprietor Sandi Spence has spoken of her “disbelief” at discovering her men’s clothes shop had been targeted by thieves this week – the culprits breaking a window at the back and stealing 37 garments through the metal bars.

And in a bid to get the clothes back, which are valued at a total of £1,200, says she is prepared to pay anyone who has the vital information.

Sandi, who opened EFM eight years ago, told the Hawick News: “I am in total disbelief that this happened, that anyone would have the nerve to do something like that. They have smashed the window and put their hands through the bars and managed to steal all of these items. I am prepared to pay a reward of £200 to anyone who can help us get it back.”

The items stolen consist of T-shirts, long-sleeved T-shirts and hooded tops from the sporty Fox branded range, which originates from motor cross but has spread to similar sports like mountain biking, wakeboarding and surfing, of which Sandi added: “These goods aren’t the type of thing someone could sell as easily as maybe other more common brands, it is what you call technical clothing, so hopefully someone is still sitting with them and we can get them back.”

Police are also requesting the assistance of the public following the theft, which occurred some time between 5pm on Monday evening, and 9.30am on Tuesday morning.

Local Inspector Paula Clark commented: “We would particularly like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Sandbed, Buccleuch Street, or Orrock Place around these times, and saw anyone acting suspiciously.

“We would also encourage people who are being approached and offered ‘Fox’ branded clothing at greatly reduced process to come forward”

Anyone who has any information which could lead to the identification of those responsible is urged to contact Hawick Police station on 375051. Sandi can be contacted on 07527097303.
