Improvements to Hawick’s Community Recycling Centre at a cost of £306,000 are due to be carried out by Scottish Borders Council.
The local authority has agreed to fund a redesign of the Mansfield Road depot with a raft of modifications which, include a new one-way system and safer parking.
A Scottish Borders Council spokesperson said: “Design work has already commenced for the new Hawick facility which will include a one-way system with designated parking areas for offloading waste. The draft designs also allow skips to be emptied without the need to shut the site.”
Councillor David Paterson, Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “I am delighted the Council agreed to invest £306,000 in Hawick Community Recycling Centre at its budget meeting. We have listened to comments from members of the public about our Mansfield Road facility and believe the improvements to take place during 2015/16 will mean a significantly better centre.”
