NEWCASTLETON primary’s younger pupils were given an extra day’s holiday this week after the school’s heating system broke down, writes Sarah Williamson.
The youngsters in primary one-three were unable to return to school on Wednesday due to the whole school being without any heating. However, the older children were able to attend classes.
Head teacher Miss Carruthers told the Hawick News: “I couldn’t say what caused the heating to break down, but everything is in hand.
“And although it hasn’t been ideal, we have been keeping the children cosy with gas heaters.
“It has only affected one of the classes, but the pupils will only have to miss one day.”
The village’s primary one-threes were due to return to school yesterday.
