Primary six pupils at Drumlanrig school are set to make a big splash after being awarded £325 from Hawick Common Good Fund, writes Jason Marshall.

The cash will pay for a 10-week block of swimming lessons at Teviotdale Leisure Centre, and it is hoped the children will then sit their aquatics certificate.

The lessons will also give staff at Drumlanrig an indication of the youngsters’ abilities with a view to possible selection for the inter-school swimming gala.

Head teacher Jeanette Gordon said: “We’re very grateful to the Common Good Fund for giving our pupils the opportunity to be taught the skills to pass their certificate by funding their swimming lessons.”
