Police warn drivers to ‘be aware’

community beat policeman Keith Murray has warned drivers to be extra vigilant if icy road conditions continue.

PC Murray told this week’s community council meeting that Tuesday’s icy roads brought about the most chaos he’d seen in his career – resulting in more than 20 collisions across the Borders in the space of an hour.

He stated: “That’s the worst day I’ve ever known for accidents.

“It wasn’t forecast, but the ice just came in.”

The community officer added: “We would remind drivers to remember their lights, washers, keep the speed down and just be aware.”
