Police campaign to cut booze-fuelled violence

THE town’s police inspector has called on the public to help tackle alcohol-fuelled violence.

Inspector Paula Clark has asked for help as part a campaign entitled ‘Boozed up, Squared up, Locked up’, stating: “I would call upon everyone’s support, particularly if you have information regarding someone carrying a knife or a weapon - report them immediately to police.”

The campaign will see local officers working closely with their partners and targeting hotspot areas, whilst also conducting alcohol test purchasing operations and making increased visits to licensed premises - making full use of their stop and search powers relating to alcohol, drugs and weapons.

Inspector Clark added: “The strap line ‘Boozed up, squared up, locked up - we’re calling time on alcohol-related violence’ says it all.

“We will not tolerate individuals who disgrace our communities – they will be dealt with robustly.”
