Parliament praise for centenarian

Have your say

HAwick MSP John Lamont has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament to congratulate Burnfoot centenerian James Douglas on winning a gardening award.

As reported in the Hawick News last week, in his 100th year, Mr Douglas has scooped top prize in the Scottish Borders Tenants Organisation gardening competition - and this week his achievement was recognised at Holyrood.

Mr Lamont said: “James’ achievements are quite remarkable, and show that he is not letting age get in the way of his passion for gardening. I wanted to pay tribute to his efforts and that is why I lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament to celebrate them. I am delighted to say that it has already received the support of several MSPs who are equally impressed with what James has done.”
