No winter break for council’s dog wardens

DOG owners have been warned that the wintry weather is no excuse for not cleaning up after their pets.

Scottish Borders Council has received a number of reports of people not clearing up after their dogs in the snow, which is a serious health hazard, especially for children out playing.

Councillor Len Wyse, executive member for environmental services, said: “Just because there’s a lot of snow around, doesn’t mean that the council will be relaxing its commitment to stamp out dog fouling. The dog wardens remain vigilant. Remember that if you don’t clean up after your dog you can be fined £40.”

If you see dog walkers in your area failing to clean up after their pets, you can report them anonymously. Call the council with as many details as you can on 0300 100 1800 or email communitywardens@scotborders.gov.uk
