Denholm’s new youth club is set to throw open its doors for the first time tomorrow (Friday) in the village hall.
The facility is being provided by Hawick’s Escape Youth Services and will offer youngsters in and around the village the chance to attend one of two sessions. But to ensure the youth club’ success, an appeal has gone out for more volunteers to come forward.
Sian Anderson, local voluntary youth work manager, said: “Although we have some funds in place to assist with running the project, we’re still looking for funding for paid staff.
“In the short-term, the project will be run by volunteers with support from Escape Youth Services and sessional staff. But we are appealing for additional volunteers interested in helping out.”
She added: “We hope to have enough volunteers so that it may only mean as little a commitment as one evening per month but we really need the local community’s support to make the project successful.”
The junior session for primary fives-sevens will be held in the main hall from 6.30pm-8.30pm, while the S1s and upwards will be in the small hall from 7-9pm.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Sian on 378001 or 07943 515002.
