THE changing face of Hawick has been perfectly captured in a new DVD.

Eric Scotland and Gordon Gilfether, members of Hawick Camera Club, recently gathered a collection of old photographs and sketches of the town, ranging from the late 1800s through to the early 1990s, and came up with the idea of how interesting it might be to try and re-photograph these old scenes from the same spot.

Eric said: “There have been significant changes and due to these it was, in some instances, difficult to determine where the original had been taken from.

“Remarkably, however, there are many things that have, despite the passage of time, never changed.”

Their results are now available to buy on DVD.

Gordon said: “On the disc the viewer is able to see each of the old photographs along with a picture of the same scene taken earlier this year (2012). A commentary with interesting bits of information accompanies the images.”

The discs are on sale, priced £5, and all proceeds will be shared between Hawick Camera Club and Arthurshiel Animal Rescue Centre, St Boswells.

They are available from The Little Shop, Weensland Road; Deans and Simpson, Oliver Place; Libby’s Pet Shop, High Street; and Hutton’s Butchers, Howegate.
