THE B6357 is to be closed on Tuesday at Gillside where Scottish Borders council will be installing a new culvert.
The scheme involves replacing the collapsed masonry headwall by extending the existing masonry arch culvert with a pre-cast concrete box culvert measuring 2.5m by 2.5m over a length of around 12m. It will also see the construction of a new earthworks embankment and masonry headwalls and training wingwalls at the upstream end of the culvert extension.
In correspondence to Newcastleton Community Council, Robert Young, engineer for the works, said: “It is anticipated that all the works shall be carried out with minimum disruption to locals and road users alike, however, it will be necessary to close the B6537 road in the early stages of construction in order to safely off-load and place the pre-cast concrete box culvert sections.”
The road will be shut from 8am to 6pm, while the work is anticipated to be completed by SBc Contracts within around eight weeks.
