THE Bill McLaren Foundation has revealed plans to store the Voice of Rugby’s commentary notes in the town’s Heritage Hub.
Addressing Hawick Community Council – in connection with their wish to erect a small monument in Wilton Lodge Park – foundation secretary John Thorburn said: “We have 50 years of Bill’s commentary notes and are currently working towards storing them in the archive centre.”
Mr Thorburn informed the meeting that during a recent dinner hosted in London by the foundation, one of the rugby legend’s famous sheets of notes raised £3,000. He also revealed that they are “100 per cent” planning to open an education centre in Hawick in memory of Mr McLaren.
Mr Thorburn told the community council that the foundation supported their plans for a memorial.
