Man pleads guilty to Liddesdale Road murder

A male has pled guilty to the murder of a man in Hawick last year.

Dean Rippon, who was 19 at the time, admitted killing 43-year-old Christopher Swailes following a disturbance at a property in Liddesdale Road on Monday, November 14.

Police were called to the scene where Mr Swailes was found with serious injuries, to which he had already succumbed to before officers arrived.

Detective Inspector Stuart Houston, who led the investigation, commented: “My thoughts are first and foremost with Christopher Swailes’s family and I sincerely hope that the guilty plea by Dean Rippon will allow those who knew and cared for Christopher to move on with their lives.

“This was a crime that shocked the local community, and from the outset of this investigation, the community rallied round and provided us with information and assistance that was crucial in helping to bring this case to court.”
