A man was attacked in Hawick town centre in the early hours of Saturday, July 30.

The victim, a 34-year-old, was set upon between 12.05pm and 12.20pm on Station Bridge, near Hawick Library.

His attacker, another man of unspecified age and appearance, is said to have assaulted him, pinned him to the ground and directed abuse at him before making off in an undisclosed direction.

The suspect is described as wearing a white hat, blue jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.

Police hunting the culprit are urging any witnesses to the attack to come forward.

Police constable Shirley Anderson, based at Selkirk police station, said: “There was a lot of shouting and swearing during the assault, so it’s possible this would have drawn attention to the men.

“We’re also appealing to people who were sitting outside the library who would have witnessed the incident.”

Any potential witnesses are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
