THE 60th birthday celebrations of Denhom resident Heather Ferguson were given a touch of star quality on Saturday night with a special performance by the X Factor’s MacDonald Brothers, writes Sarah Williamson.

Heather and husband Peter, who are former proprietors at the villages’s Cross Keys Inn, greeted almost 80 people to the party which was held at their Minto Gardens home, but guests of honour were Scottish singing duo Brian and Craig MacDonald – who featured on the ITV talent show in 2006 when it was won by Leona Lewis.

Arranged by Heather’s son Peter, who is also their agent, the appearance of the Macdonald Brothers saw them wowing villagers from the Fergusons’ decking with a set which included covers, acoustic, accordian and fiddle numbers. And hostess Heather says they were a huge hit.

“I think some people thought it was a CD at first, until they realised it was live,” she said. “It was a fantastic thing for Peter to arrange and everyone was up dancing. Although my grass is now like a churned up field, it was certainly a birthday to remember.”

Peter, who runs PDF Productions, said: “I look after a lot of the MacDonald Brothers’ concerts and I’m good pals with them, so I thought it would be great if they could play at mum’s birthday. They went down an absolute storm and had an amazing night. They loved the response they got and everyone had a great time.”

The Macdonald Brothers, who have released four albums, spent the night at the Cross Keys Hotel.
