Colania Lodges, the developer behind plans for a “high-end” holiday park in Hawick, has pledged to invest around £2million in the project.
And Colania director Mairi Drummond told us that the firm aims to create six jobs at the luxury lodges and caravan site atWilton Lodge Park, where it is hoped building work will start next year with the initial construction phase taking about six months.
Mrs Drummond has already held pre-application discussions with Scottish Borders Council (SBC) officials, who she says have expressed enthusiasm about the multi-million pound proposal.
Mrs Drummond told the Hawick News: “We’re going to invest in the region of £2million. The council like our plans and have been quite supportive. We’re going to apply for planning permission over the next few months, and we hope to engage with the community during this process.”
Last week, we reported that SBC had received a written agreement from Colania regarding the four-acre site at the south end of the park, and Mrs Drummond told us that the Coldingham-based firm was delighted to “have the opportunity to create a luxurious holiday park at Wilton Lodge Park”.
She continued: “We intend to offer a range of accommodation to visitors and our site is planned to include 29 luxury wooden lodges, touring pitches, camping pitches, a reception and a play area.”
There will also be an area at the reception devoted to highlighting the services of local businesses.
Mrs Drummond explained: “We’re keen to work with companies in and around Hawick to try and promote what they have to offer.”
Alluding to the firm’s aim to maximise the new site’s potential, she added: “We’re also hoping to get year-round tourism ... with the lodges particuarly popular in the winter as people like the idea of staying in a cosy lodge.
“The development we’re trying to create is a high-end development that will attract affluent visitors who will come into the town and spend their money while they’re here ... and use the local visitor attractions and restaurants.”
“Wilton Lodge Park is an amazing opportunity for Colania,” concluded Mrs Drummond. “There’s such a lot in the park and I think it’s a great place for tourists to come and visit.”
