A Hawick woman has found that losing the pounds has gained her a new way of life.

Not that it was just a few pounds that Lorna Murray dropped over the course of 10 months - it was nearly four stone.

Now, a year down the line, thirty-five-year-old Lorna is still enjoying life to the full, socialising more and taking energetic exercise classes.

Her story so impressed Scottish Slimmers, the group she joined to help her lose weight, that it invited her along for a glamorous makeover and photoshoot for its publicity material and forthcoming summer magazine.

Lorna, an accounts clerk in the Hawick auction mart offices of bloodstock auction house Goffs UK. saw her weight creep up to 13st 8lbs when her daughter Aimee, 15, had to undergo major spinal surgery when she was 13.

“When Aimee was diagnosed with scoliosis everything was put on the back burner,” Lorna said. “It was a difficult time for all of us and I definitely turned to food for comfort.”

We sometimes choose members whose stories we think are inspirational to have a makeover and experience a photoshoot and Lorna is certainly one of those - and she looks amazing.

She joined Scottish Slimmers in August 2014, attending the weekly class in the town led by Margaret Lightfoot, and could not believe how quickly she shed the weight.

“I lost nearly half a stone in the first two weeks and that really encouraged me,” she said. “My friends and family were so surprised at how easily and quickly I was able to lose weight as I am a very fussy eater but the eating plan really suited me and the support of the class definitely keeps you going.

“Margaret’s encouragement also kept me motivated. In fact I only ever put 1lb on throughout my weight loss. For me what really worked was to write down everything that I ate.”

She saw her dress size drop from 18 to 12 and she has been a trim 10st 1lb ever since reaching her target weight.

An unexpected bonus was being able to wear a dream dress on her wedding day.

A month after joining Scottish Slimmers, Lorna and Paul, her partner of 16 years, decided to get married.

“Aimee and I went shopping for my wedding dress and the one I ordered was a size 18,” said Lorna,

“By May 2015 I had to have it taken in to a size 12 as I’d lost nearly 4 stone.

“My wedding day in July 2015 was my best ‘slim’ moment, I felt amazing.”

With the title of beautiful, slim bride under her belt thanks to her determination, Lorna is reaping many other the benefits of being slim.

“I walk for miles, I go to boxercise classes and I love socialising now,” she said.

She has also now had the excitement of taking part in a professional photoshoot, getting a complete hair and beauty makeover.

“It was really good fun,” Lorna said.

A spokesperson for Scottish Slimmers said: “We sometimes choose members whose stories we think are inspirational to have a makeover and experience a photoshoot and Lorna is certainly one of those - and she looks amazing.”
