Long-established shop to be bought out by employee

Long-serving Dorward’s employee Joyce Tinlin is the new owner of the High Street lighting and gift shop.

The well-known Teri and Common-Riding singer has confirmed that she has decided to buy over the popular business, which was placed on the market by retirement-seeking proprietors Alistair and Jennifer Dorward.

Joyce, who has worked at the shop for ten years, told the Hawick News: “It is something I’d been thinking about but had never really thought to broach the subject, until one day the subject came up in conversation. I told Alistair I had thought about it and about a month ago I made my decision.”

Mrs Tinlin says she intends to maintain a similar gift line in the shop, but is also keen to put her on stamp on things. “I’m really looking forward to the adventure and challenge, and my family have plenty of confidence in me,” she added.

The keys will change hands on June 1, and Mr Dorward said they’re thrilled to be handing them over to Joyce. stating: “We are absolutely delighted. Joyce knows the shop back-to-front and we’re so pleased it is staying open.”

On the Rightbiz business property website, it states that the Hawick shop is offered at a premium of £69,995 with an annual rental of £10,500. The Galashiels branch of Dorward’s, which is still for sale, is offered at an incoming premium of £39,995 with an annual rental of £12,000.
