Locals urged to be on their guard against bogus callers

TERIES are being warned about men posing as council workers knocking on doors asking for scrap metal.

Scottish Borders Council this week confirmed that any goods uplifted from households only takes place where a prior booking has been made through the Bulky Uplifts Service.

A spokesperson said: “Council staff do not ‘cold call’ to uplift metal or other goods from householders.”

Anyone with any concerns regarding this should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.

The spokesperson added: “Any legitimate worker will be happy to provide identification, and for householders to contact their employers before granting them access to their house.”
