Youngsters to get in gear for driver event

A YOUNG driver roadshow is being run on Friday in the Haugh.

The roadshow, which is open to 17-25 year-olds and will run from 7.30pm to 9pm,, is part of a campaign aimed at raising young drivers’ awareness of the risk and responsibilities of driving.

Inspector John Scott said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to not only see what is on offer but could save you money on your car insurance, improve your skills on the road and keep you safe.”

Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is offering free demonstration drives. There are competitions and prizes to be won. There will also be experts form Lothian and Borders Police (road policing), Scottish Borders Council, Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade and others.

And John Cleland, of Cleland’s Galashiels, is giving young people the chance to take the advanced driving test. He will refund the first 100 young drivers who pass.
