Weather alert: Snow warning still in place with possible flooding to come

ALTHOUGH Hawick has escaped the worst of this morning’s snowfall, an amber warning (be prepared) remains in place as Scottish Borders Council officials continue to monitor the situation.

SBC gritting teams have been out in force, with strong winds in the east of the region blowing snow across roads and making driving conditions difficult.

The vast majority of children in and around Hawick were able to travel to school as normal this morning but there is potential for disruption to transport in this afternoon.

An SBC spokesperson said: “This could result in some early school closures, which will be communicated through the group-call system, with updates on local radio, and SBC’s website and social media feeds.

Sunday’s forecast is for a thaw and heavy rain, and as a result, a yellow warning (be aware) has been issued amid concerns over localised flooding.
