Teries in Tartan ready to travel to Polish festival

A GROUP of local youngsters will be dancing all the way to Eastern Europe next week.

The Teries in Tartan group is heading to Poland to take part in an annual festival.

The journey follows hot on the heels of their inaugural trip to Germany in 2010, when they were founded, and last year’s successful showcase when German and Polish groups visited Hawick.

There are 18 youngsters heading to Poznan where they will be staying with Polish families.

These include highland dancers, ceilidh dancers, a band of musicians, composers, singers and even their own pipes and drums section.

Group member Christina Hendry told the Hawick News this week: “We are really looking forward to going to Poland and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us and makes the group possible.

“Whether that be members of the community attending our concerts and fund-raisers, the parents of the group members or our tireless group leader Cath (Elliot-Walker). Thank you!”
