Teries get chance to quiz money men
LOCAL groups and organisations are being urged to play their part in the national budget process.
It comes ahead of the eagerly anticipated ‘Parliament Day’ when members of the Scottish Government’s Finance Committee will meet in the Heart of Hawick on November 5.
But before that, Teries will be given the opportunity to have their say in a series of morning workshops.
Convener of the committee, Kenneth Gibson MSP, told the Hawick News: “As part of our scrutiny process we believe it is vital to hear from local groups and organisations, which is why we have invited local Hawick organisations including business groups along to take part in private morning workshops with committee members.
“This means that we can include issues of importance to the people of Hawick when scrutinising the draft budget and put these views directly to John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for finance and sustainable growth, when he comes to give evidence to the Finance Committee that same afternoon.”
To book a seat at the meeting contact the Parliament’s visitor services office from Monday on 0131 348 5200. Tickets can be collected on the day from the Heart of Hawick before the meeting starts at 2pm.
There will also be an informal question-and-answer session for the public and school children about the Finance Committee at 1.30pm
