Teenage pair are put under curfew following bus depot break-in

TWO Hawick teenagers have admitted thefts and vandalism from vehicles parked in the First Bus Depot in Burnfoot.

Christopher Rodgers, 16, of Eildon Road, and 17-year-old of Burnhead Road, admitted crawling under the depot gates on three separate occasions.

On August 19/20 they stole a quantity of life hammers and a fire extinguisher from a bus and carried out the same thefts on September 7. Three days later they entered the depot again and broke windows and the windscreen on various buses.

Selkirk Sheriff Court was told the damage was estimated at £972. The pair were arrested on a warrant and spent two nights in custody before appearing in court.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond noted the pair were already on deferred sentence for vandalism offences. He added: “You might think someone on deferred sentence from an adult court might have learned their lesson.” The sheriff called for background reports and deferred sentence until January 21 with both teenagers subjected to a home curfew between 8pm and 7am.
