Shop owner sees red after new yellow line is painted

A COMMERCIAL Road businesswoman is furious after yellow lines appeared outside her premises.

Jane Tweddle, who has operated the Quality Used Furniture Warehouse with husband Nigel for the last nine years, is in talks with transport bosses after the lines were painted following the recent resurfacing work.

She told the Hawick News: “When we got to work on Saturday morning there was a yellow line right across our doorway that’s never been there before.

“It’s ridiculous. We rely heavily on people coming and dropping things off or picking things up.”

A spokesperson for network operator Bear Scotland, who was due to meet with Mr and Mrs Tweddle yesterday, said it was hoped a suitable compromise could be reached.

They said: “As part of recent resurfacing works, the yellow road markings were laid in accordance with the current Traffic Regulation Order.

“It would appear that sometime in the past, amendments were made to the road markings that were not followed-up in a revised Order.

“We have a member of the BEAR Scotland team visiting the owner of the store on Thursday to discuss the matter.

“We will then make a recommendation to Transport Scotland for their consideration.”
