CARE homes in Hawick will be included in a planned shake-up of how Scottish Borders Council delivers its adult social care services.
Elected memebers have agreed that further consideration is given to the transfer of some services - including homecare, residential care homes and day centres - to a new, council-owned arm’s length organisation. The decision has been made in the face of ongoing financial pressures and increased demand for services, with the new arrangements intended to provide a sustainable footing for the future.
A new organisation would also be able to develop new services and potentially generate an income to further support council work. Following an appraisal of options available to the Social Work department, a business case to consider the two recommended models — Local Authority Trading Company and Limited Liability Partnership — will be reviewed at a full council meeting in June. Staff involved would transfer directly to the new organisation.
