Hawick cops are appealing for witnesses after a man broke into a house and made off with some jewellery.
The break-in took place at a house in Lochpark Road at around 4.40pm on Tuesday.
The homeowner had returned to discover a man was in her property. He quickly left, taking items of jewellery with him.
The suspect is described as being around 40-years-old, 6ft tall, with a Scottish but not local accent, and he was wearing a white baseball cap.
Detective Sergeant Gordon Millar, said: “Enquiries are under way into identifying the man responsible for this crime. It was a frightening experience for the homeowner and we are committed to catching the culprit.
“Anyone who saw anything suspicious in or around Lochpark Road on Tuesday afternoon or who has any information which could help with the investigation is urged to Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, phone the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11.”
