New play equipment at Moat and bollards for High Street

MOAT Park play area is to be given a £12,000 facelift.

The cash was approved from the council’s Small Schemes budget this week and will fund a host of new play equipment.

The old seesaw will be removed and replaced with a multi-user seesaw and an adventure trail will be installed on the grass in front of the play park, which will include balance beams, a sway walkway and turning bars.

Original equipment will also be repainted with work scheduled to start on March 25 and by completed by April 1.

Local councillor Davie Paterson said: “This is long overdue. I think the kids in the west end will be very happy.”

Councillors also approved a proposal to install metal bollards on the High Street, from Cross Wynd to Drumlanrig Tower at a cost of £9,850. And plans to replace the old rose beds at Lothian Street with low maintenance shrubs (£1,900) were given the go ahead as well.

Although the three projects exceeded the amount left in the Small Schemes budget of £18,842, it was agreed to make up the difference using revenue from the pay and display parking.

A motion from councillor Stuart Marshall to split next year’s budget equally between the two council wards – Hawick and Denholm and Hawick and Hermitage – was approved.
